Butyl tape 50mm x 15m
Butyl tape 50mm x 15m
You have probably heard of butyl tape (also occasionally called butyl tape) and how you can easily and inexpensively provide a waterproof finish with this product. Butyl tape, also known as butyl tape, is a UV-resistant tape made of Aluminium foil with a single adhesive butyl layer on top. This Black tape is permanently highly elastic and because of the chosen material vapour retardant and water-repellent. It is also easily paintable and adheres very well to almost any surface material.
The Wovar butyl tape is supplied in three widths (50 mm, 100 mm & 150 mm) and has a length of 15 metres. You can easily cut it to the desired length yourself with a Snap-off knife for use.
What is butyl tape used for?
Butyl tape has many applications due to its good adhesion and strong flexibility as well as its material-specific (butyl) properties. Thus, butyl tape can be used both indoors and outdoors for various jobs. The most common applications of butyl tape are sealing and repair jobs that require air and watertight sealing.
For example, butyl tape is used for a watertight seal after installing window frames, skylights and for (minor) repairs to, for example, the gutter or aluminium profiles. The hydrophobic and vapour retardant properties of the butyl tape lend themselves perfectly to this and, thanks to its elastic properties, you can easily shape it to suit your needs.
How do you apply butyl tape?
First of all, determine which width of butyl tape is best for your job, for smaller seals we recommend the 50 mm. For most jobs, the 100 mm version is most suitable and for large joints (e.g. sealing a skylight) you can choose the 150 mm version. Next, determine the length and cut the tape to the correct length with a Snap-off knife.
Further, remove the white release liner (the foil on the inside of the tape after you unroll it) a bit and stick this tape in the right place. You can now peel off the remainder of the white release liner and stick the tape securely to the product you want to repair or seal. Tip: you can easily shape the tape into the desired shape and stretch it a little where necessary. This is because at a smaller overlap it can come loose.
