Measuring inside measurements

To measure the inside size of a cavity, use the smaller, sharp, inner jaws. You place this in the cavity, then expand the Caliper. Do this as far as possible, until both parts of the inner jaws touch the inside of the cavity. Then you can read the inside measurement on the long part of the ruler. 

Measuring outer dimensions

With the caliper you can measure not only the inside measurement. You can also measure the outside measurement up to about 15 cm. To do this, take the larger outer jaws. Place these longer jaws over the object. Then read off the size of the object from zero on the lower part. This allows you to measure with millimetre accuracy. 

Measurement accuracy caliper

This caliper is capable of measuring 2 decimal places by millimetres. This is due to the vernier scale that sits under the large measuring area. Caliper use is thus very easy. The vernier scale is easy to read. When the size of an object does not fall exactly to a millimetre with the main ruler, add the vernier scale. This can be read off using the lines. You start at 0 on this scale and check when a line on this scale first fully lines up with a line on the main ruler. The number you read on the vernier scale becomes the number after the comma with the millimetres.
