The mounting holes are flattened, so the screws will fit nicely into these holes. If you are working with Hardwood, it is advisable to pre-drill. Use hardwood drill bits for this, which have a diameter smaller than the screw. Our tip for when working with posts is to think out what you want to build in advance.
