Corten Steel Screws Self-Drilling 4.2 x 32 mm - Box 50 pieces

These self-drilling screws have a head with a corten steel-look coating. They have been made for attaching corten steel to wood, making them the ideal screws for securing our corten steel garden edging. Of course, the screws can also be used for other purposes, such as installing Trespa®, HPL, and featheredge panels.

The pan head of this screw has a special coating that complies with the Qualicoat requirements. This coating results in a corten steel look, due to which the screw all but disappears against a corten steel background. Moreover, the coating is scratch-resistant. Another selling point of the screws is that they are equipped with a self-drilling point. Because of this, drilling pilot holes in softwood is not necessary.

Note: you do still have to drill pilot holes in hardwood and metal. You can do this with a 3 mm hardwood drill bit and a 5 mm metal drill bit, respectively.

The corten steel screws have a pan head measuring 8.2 mm in width by 3.1 mm in height. This relatively wide head ensures a higher clamping range than your average screw, and creates an incredibly strong connection. 32 mm of the screw's shank is threaded, and the screws are 4.2 mm thick. The screws are made of A2 stainless steel, making them less susceptible to oxidation, and more durable and weatherproof.

How to secure corten steel edging with corten steel screws

Start by drilling holes in desired spots in your corten steel garden edging with a 5 mm metal drill bit. Next, if you are using softwood stakes, you can simply drive the screws through the hole in the garden edging and into the wood. For a secure attachment, you will need 2 screws per stake. This means that with one box of 50 screws, you can secure 11 straight borders (assuming placement of 1 stake every 50 cm) or 12 corten steel corners.

If you are using hardwood stakes, you will have to drill a hole in the stake first, using a 3 mm hardwood drill bit, before driving in the screws.

Unfortunately, our corten steel garden screens cannot be mounted with these screws. The head of the screw is not wide enough to securely attach the screens. Instead, we recommend using our hardwood screws with AR coating.

Installing cladding panels

In addition to corten steel edging, you can use these screws for a host of other purposes, including to install cladding panels. We recommend pre-drilling the panels with a 5 mm drill bit for the main fixation points and an 8 mm drill bit for the other holes. This last bit of extra room allows the panel to expand and contract with the changes in temperature, while the 8.2 mm head of the screw still covers the hole.
