Expanding Foam Tape 20 x 30 mm - Roll 5.6 m
The foam tape is made of polyethurane foam that retains its elasticity even when fully expanded. The tape is covered with a special resin that gives it flame retardant qualities and is environmentally friendly. The foam tape is compressed and expands over time, sealing the crack in the process. At room temperature, it takes about one hour for the tape to fully expand. The exact time depends on the temperature and humidity.
You can use expanding foam tape for sealing cracks to make them airtight. It is used with masonry work, door and window frames, roofs, glazing, and more. With so many applications, expanding foam tape is a good staple in your tool kit. Our foam tape can withstand changes in the weather and create a watertight seal. Compared to PU foam, the tape is cleaner and seals better. You can also use it to reduce the size of the gap, so it can be plastered.
How does it work?
Expanding foam tape consists of compressed foam, that can expand up to a maximum of 5 times its original size. For example, our 10 x 10 foam tape starts out with a width of 2 mm, and can expand to a maximum of 10 mm. Despite the possibility of expanding this much, it is not always wise to make use of the maximum expansion. This depends on the situation. Below, we discuss a few situations and our recommendations for an air and watertight seal.
- Situation: Thermal insulation - 75% of maximum expansion. A 10 x 10 expanding foam tape can be used for cracks and gaps, with a maximum width of 7.5 mm. With wider gaps, air or water could still come in.
- Situation: Constant exposure to wind and dust (outside) - 50% of maximum expansion. A 10 x 10 expanding foam tape can be used for cracks and gaps, with a maximum width of 5 mm. With wider gaps, air or water could still come in.
- Situation: Constant exposure to (light) rain or snow - 35% of maximum expansion. A 10 x 10 expanding foam tape can be used for cracks and gaps, with a maximum width of 3.5 mm. With wider gaps, air or water could still come in.
Prevent heat loss with expanding foam tape
Expanding foam tape can fill the hole, cracks, and joints in and around your house to prevent heat loss. This will have a big effect in old homes with unnecessary gaps around the window frames. Wovar's expanding foam tape is a clean and easy solution in this situation. The expanding foam tape is sold in a foil and like a roll of tape.
Using expanding foam tape is easy. Before buying the tape, look at the size of the crack or gap you want to fill, so you can be sure that the tape fits. Remove the foil covering the tape to access the adhesion strip. When working with expanding foam tape, it is important to work fast because it expands relatively quickly. The faster you work, the easier it is to apply the tape. Push the tape into the crack as far as possible, with, for instance, a putty knife.
If you are going to paint over the foam tape, pay attention to the type of paint you need. Check with your paint specialist and mention that you are painting over a polyethurane (PU) foam tape.
