Your gate can therefore be a maximum of 72 millimeters thick with this hinge. 

Mounting a Hinge with Double Straps

Mounting a double strap hinge is a little different from a normal strap hinge. The 45-centimeter hinge has 3 mounting holes of 10 millimeters. These square holes are on both sides of the double straps. It is best to use M10 carriage bolts. The inner size of 72 millimeters, combined with the thickness of the hinge of 6 mm, means that the bolt comes through 84 millimeters of material. Therefore, use carriage bolts that are longer than 90 millimeters. The hole for the bolts is pre-drilled with  11 mm hardwood drills.
