In some cases, mounting on hardwood could also be done directly, but our advice is to pre-drill. Use good hardwood drill bits for this. For the 3.5 x 40 mm chipboard screw, use a 2 mm hardwood drill bit. After pre-drilling, simply screw the screws straight into the holes and your shelf support will be securely in place.
