Installing Decking Bolts

With our 5 x 50 mm decking bolts, also called Spyx, you can secure all kinds of wood. They are very suitable for smoothly planed deck boards of all types of Hardwood, thermal wood or Siberian Larch. Be sure to choose a stable wood type with durability class 1 or 2, with little movement.

When installing a decking, it is important to maintain a beam spacing of 35 - 40 cm centres. This prevents the boards from springing and your decking staples from coming up. For both 14.5 and 19 cm wide decking boards, always use 2 round head bolts per beam/board junction. Pre-drill with a 5 mm hardwood drill bit, then gently hammer the Spyx decking into the wood with a 1kg hammer or rubber mallet. Never pre-drill with any other size drill bit, as the Spyx will not be tight enough. But pre-drill thermal and Siberian Larch with a 4 mm drill bit.
