Fitting strike plates on rebated doors

Before fitting a strike plate, mark the place on the frame where the latch bolt of the mortise lock will fall into the frame. Once you have marked that spot, use a wood chisel to make a recess in the frame for the latch bolt. Make this cut-out about 1 to 1.5 cm deep, after which you should also cut out the surface area of the strike plates with a chisel. Do this only a Couple of mm deep, keeping the thickness of the strike plates. Now place the strike plates to cover the hole. The protruding lip of the strike plates falls around the frame. This lip will protect the frame wood from the latch bolt of the mortise locks. The strike plates for rebated doors can be used both Left and Right.
